Weed'EZ Ice Fishing Innovation

You can't catch fish until you find fish, and fish are generally attracted to underwater vegetation. Nature Vision, who has several fish finding and ice fishing products, has developed a new product that can help. It's called the Weed'Ez. The Weed'Ez is an artificial aquatic plant that an ice fisherman can drop through the hole in the ice to create a fish weedbed that will attract fish. The Weed'Ez moves under the water like a natural plant. When not in use, Weed'Ez folds up and fits into a convenient mesh storage bag. This is an example of simple, but great innovation for the fisherman. I only wish I would have thought of it myself. The Weed'Ez will be available at retailers soon.

A Weed'Ez pack will include four 60-inch plants and will retail for $19.99. For more information click here.

Record 25,000 Bass Caught

Dave Romeo, of Elizabethtown, Penn., reached a milestone few others will even dream about. This author and motivational speaker first appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1984 for setting a record for the most bass caught in a single season - he caught 3,001 in 77 days. He has now caught 25,000 bass over the last 25 years.

How does he know he caught 25,000 bass? He always fishes with a measuring tape and logbook in his pocket. He authored Better Bass Fishing - The Dave Romeo Way in 1988. Hats off to you Dave. I may have to find a copy of your book.

Extreme Aerial Bowfishing - Do You Need A Challenge

If catching a fish on a pole is too easy for you then you should try aerial bowfishing. Take a look at this video, you'll be impressed with the skill involved in shooting a fish with a bow and arrow in mid air. And I claim to be a "crazy fisherman".

Electronic Fishing Lure "Bite Lite" Produces Great Results

Serious fishermen are always looking for something that can give them the edge. Modern technology has created another innovative fishing product. This is a new product that every serious fisherman should have in his tackle box. The Bite Lite is a new patented lure that uses a high-tech chip to create the appearance of bleeding prey which triggers an inherent strike response in fish.

There is a flashing blood red light inside each lure that starts blinking on contact with water. On every retrieve the Bite Lite emits a slightly different light pattern that flashes to the rhythm of the lure's motion. A small steel ball inside the lure keeps its head erect so it swims like a real fish and causes a clicking sound which attracts fish. It is good for about 1,000 hours of fishing, no battery is required. This is truly a great new product.

There are four designs - a floater, a diver, a deep diver, and a sinker. A kit of four lures costs $39.95. Click on the link or image below for more information and to purchase.

These fishing shirts are available in a variety of colors, both long and short sleeve, as well as sweatshirts. They make an excellent gift for yourself or another fishing enthusiast.

The Carrot Stix Fishing Rod Is Now Available

Back on July 17th I wrote about the product that received the best of show award at the ICAST 2007. This is the fishing industry's highest award. This innovative product is a fishing rod made from carrot fibers which is extremely light and strong, weighing 3.1 oz. at 6 feet 9 inches length. The Carrot Stix is part of the new line of Element 21's revolutionary fishing rods developed by veteran designer Ken Whiting who is known as the Wizard of Rods. Element 21 develops and markets golf and fishing products made from the Company's proprietary Scandium Alloys which are known for their distance, consistency, accuracy and feel. I am anxious to give this new generation of fishing rods a try. They will soon be available through several retail outlets; however can be order directly from the company now. (see information below)

Let me give you the description of one of their rods:
Designed by Boyd Duckett 37th Bassmaster Classic World Champion and Ken Whiting the Wizard of Rods, our new Classic Gold series is a striking combination of versatility and performance. From its high tech Stress Free blank design in high modulus graphite and Nano Cellulose Bio-Fibers to its anodized aluminum weight port butt cap the Classic Gold series is one fine piece of fishing equipment. Maticulous attention to detail is paid to the construction of each and every Classic Gold rod as noted by many inherent features which would typically, only be found on custom rods. For example, locking wraps on each single foot guide, guides with no ceramics to crack or fall out, our easy access weight port for personal balancing and our own in house Maximum Exposure II split reel seat for the ultimate in blank / hand contact and sensitivity. In terms of performance the Classic Gold Carrot Stix series exhibits an extremely well balanced combination of lure presentation, castability and overall rod control. As Boyd said, "If this wasn’t the sweetest rod I’ve ever fished with, it wouldn’t have my name on it."

Virginia Tech Wins College Bass Nationals

College bass tournament fishing is gaining popularity. The recent Under Armour College Bass National Championships, held on the Arkansas River, had 35 of the top college bass fishing teams competing. Virginia Tech (Scott Wiley and Brett Thompson) came out on top, followed by the University of Louisiana – Lafayette (Cody McCrary and William Carstens), the University of Oklahoma (Chip Porche' and Matt Pangrac), the University of Iowa (John Haynes and Tyler Mehrl), and Mississippi State University (Cal Clark and Sam Lawrence). The final day of the tournament was October, 20th.

I think this is a great sport for college students. It will reach a group of young people that many other sports will not. And unlike most other sports, this is something you can do for the rest of your life. For more information on College Bass go to their web site at www.collegebass.com.
